I love being able to design in containers other than a simple vase. Pumpkins definitely are on the top of my list of favorite unique container to use.
About Me
- Lori Horst
- I started a career in floral design after I graduated college with a dual degree in business. While searching for a job, I realized I could not imagine a life that did not revolve around creativity and design. I needed something different, so I started working for a small floral shop in Michigan. Shortly after that I moved back to Indiana, where I worked for four years as a floral designer at one of the top flower shops in Chicago. Since then I have never looked back.

St. George 100th Anniversary
Last year, I was asked to do the flowers for my church's 100th year anniversary celebration.
I again had some help with this one. Both of my parents and my boyfriend helped me complete just under 100 pieces that took roughly 6 hours to finish (we worked from 8pm until 2 am). During this time they all become experts at stripping roses and prepping arrangements, and I cannot believe I actually got my mom to help replicate a few pieces!
I had a very limited budget to work with, and I also had to scrounge through the hall's back room to find as many vases as possible. I definitely had to get creative with this project! I made numerous designs for the centerpieces to keep things interesting.

This piece was used as the centerpiece for the head table, and right behind it sat the Crown Prince of Yugoslavia.
I must give credit to my dad for any and all looped ti leaves that were made.
This shows just how big the room is, and how much work had to be done.
I must say my favorite part of this entire project was about 3 hours into us working in the back room. There was a dance going on in the hall. My aunt, who is the hall manager, brought us snacks of cheese, bread and prosciutto, and we had a few drinks of choice. I look over at my dad and he is snacking on meat, drinking a beer, and singing along to the Serbian song playing in the hall; all while stripping roses. Needless to say, we definitely made a good time out of long hours and a lot of work.
Thanks to the Halls of St. George for the great opportunity and to Mom, Tat and Kevin for all your help!

Wedding Wishes
I was honored when my uncle and "aunt-to-be" asked me to do the flowers for their wedding. Especially since it was the first large scale wedding I had done all on my own. It was great fun, a few long hours, a bit of stress, and definitely all worthwhile in helping make the bride and groom's day as perfect as they wished it to be!
I still can't believe that my uncle Bobby is married, and I couldn't be happier to have Monika as part of our family! Love, prayers, and well wishes to you both.
I must also thank my amazing family for helping me out with this one. They served as my runners, delivery drivers, they helped with the set up, and even kept me company while I worked! Every little bit helps. Thanks guys!!
